Rød, hvit og blå (Red, White and Blue) is a project existing of four paintings, visualizing the subjective side of happiness and misery from Norway and the Netherlands. It should serve as a supplement to the World Happiness Report (WHR), which mainly focuses on measurable economic, materialistic and social factors.

With these paintings, I show that the WHR, by not covering subjective happiness, is only showing a small and incomplete part of the happiness of people in all countries. By using storytelling-art in this project, I address a larger, younger target group and excite them to take part in the discussion about what happiness involves for them. It is important to include younger people in this discussion since they will be the policymakers of the future. Rød, hvit og blå is the first step to a visual, subjective database of the personal and emotional perception of happiness from the inhabitants of a country. It serves as an additional way to present happiness in a more democratic way.
