Experiences about life and death are shared, beautiful stories about resuscitation are explained, but also the down sides are discussed.

A conversation starter about CPR as a choice.

Life and death is something we often prefer not to think about, resuscitation is not seen as a choice but as an obvious only option and we prefer to postpone the question whether or not we want to be resuscitated for as long as possible.

The ‘do-not-resuscitate-me’ tattoo symbolises CPR as a choice. By opening the first ‘Resuscitate me or not tattoo shop’, people will become aware of CPR as a choice and above all entering into the conversation about resuscitation. No one can decide for another. But we can talk about it, and that is exactly the purpose of the six-minute documentary “Resuscitate Me or Not”. This documentary shows the reality of CPR by letting five people share their story. Including the beautiful sides, including the fears and including the reality that we would rather not see. Stories about acceptance, long-term recovery, difficulty with endless life extension, life-changing choices and gratitude.

This six-minute documentary starts the conversation about resuscitation, about the pros and cons and about the reality on which a thoughtful choice can be based. It is a conversation that not only concerns the vulnerable group, but it is a message to all of us. The choice is yours.

“I had never asked myself the question” – Hans Achterbergh (75)

We have a difficult relationship with death. We try to deny it, to think about it as little as possible, to find a way to outsmart it or to keep it away at least as long as possible.

– Frank Meester, philosoper
“You help vulnerable people to remain in control of their lives” – Tattoo artist Lucia Bonnet

Think earlier about the question of whether you want to be resuscitated or not. If you are in the emergency room, you might be too late.

– Diederik van Dijk, professor of intensive care
Publication in ‘Het Noordhollands Dagblad’
Shared by the ANBO and NVVE, with beautiful responses as a result
