WHAT
Extended Endings archives an individual’s relations through scraped and generated data. By algorithmically approaching complex personal data sets (images, videos, audios, texts), the platform takes accountability for making choices and deals with the human construct of redemption in a personalized experience. It creates a liminal digital space for grieving and reflecting upon lost relationships.
WHY
Throughout the research process, I established the ritualistic origin of algorithms and found re-occuring ritualistic elements (accountability, liminality, redemption). I worked to design a potential algorithm, which focuses on these ritualistic elements and, in turn, improves the experience of personal data overflow.
HOW
Extended Endings is a website, consisting of 6 pages: disclaimer page, landing page, index page, preface page, profile page, and ritual page. It can be seen as a trailer or a possible scenario in the near future. The website is created using ritualistic elements of redemption, liminality, and accountability, which influenced the content and the order in which it is displayed. The rituals video and the demo video are both shot in the Willem de Kooning academy and edited with Adobe Premier. All data present on the website is scraped from my personal social media accounts and selected based on the online relationship with Antonio John Meschino.
