The Legend of the Red Cliff is a concept for an IP about old Dutch folklores, myths and tales. With the goal of the series being to bring old unknown folklore stories back from obscurity and update them for 21st century audiences.

This project is a collaboration between Lesley Blom, Rozemarijn Kon and Wolfer Freijsen to create a concept for an atmospheric Animated series.

The Project

  • Aimed at ages 7-14
  • 12 Episodes
  • 11 minutes per episode
  • Different Dutch folklores in each episode.

Art Direction

One of the roles I had was the Art Director. As the Art Director I wanted to give the series a fitting atmosphere that conveyed the feeling of nostalgia.

I went with a painterly feeling since you don’t see a lot of shows with painted backgrounds anymore. As a 3D artist it was a challenge for me to implement this style for 3D renders.
